French farmers will receive tax relief for the years 2022 and 2023 if they abandon the use of glyphosate. The EU Commission has given the green light to the French "phase-out of glyphosate" programme. It sees no problems with EU competition law. Winegrowers who renounce the use of pesticides containing glyphosate in their vineyards can also claim up to 2,500 euros. The EU defended the French go-it-alone with the fact that the upper limits for national subsidies would not be exceeded. Support for farmers was possible in connection with the Russian attack on Ukraine, it said. The programme will cost the French state 215 million euros.
