36-year-old Florian Richter was crowned Germany's best sommelier in the final of the "Sommelier Trophy". The maître and head sommelier from the Hotel Kronenschlösschen in Hattenheim succeeds Sebastian Russold, who won the Sommelier Union 2021 competition. Second place went to Julien Alsoufi, sommelier at BASF Gastronomie in Ludwigshafen, and third place to Angelika Grundler from Landgasthof Paradies in Frickingen on Lake Constance.

The nine-member jury, chaired by sommelier world champion Marc Almert, had prepared a number of challenges for the participants. These included a sophisticated aperitif service with champagne, vermouth and Belgian Trappist beer as well as a blind tasting of three German Rieslings. Probably the most difficult task was to blind taste five clear alcoholic drinks in three minutes, define their type and name the main ingredients and their origin. "Congratulations to Florian Richter. That was a fantastic performance, the standard was incredibly high!" said Yvonne Heistermann, President of the Sommelier Union Germany after the final.
