Hospices Beaune
Image header

The annual charity auction at the Hospices de Beaune, which took place for the 163rd time on Sunday 19 November, achieved the second-best result in its history with 23 million euros. Last year, 817 wine barrels were auctioned with an average price of 35,500 euros. This year, there were 753 pièces at an average of 30,500 euros, which is seen as an indication that the market for Burgundy is easing somewhat due to the good harvests in 2022 and 2023, although the results of a charity auction could not be considered representative of trade prices.

The presidential piece, a barrel whose proceeds are the only one to benefit not the Beaune hospital but another charitable initiative, was bought at auction for 350,000 euros by Olivier Poelaert, owner of the Château de Couches.
