The first vineyard in East Frisia has been dedicated with a church service in the municipality of Westoverledingen (Leer district). The members of the First East Frisian Winegrowers' Cooperative (OWG) planted around 4,000 Solaris and Souvignier Gris vines on the approximately one hectare site. They want to harvest the first grapes in three years.

The cooperative, founded in 2019, sees good opportunities for viticulture there due to changed climatic conditions. According to the report, East Frisia currently has almost as many hours of sunshine as Stuttgart.
