In three regions of Brittany, newly founded wineries are bringing in their first harvest. The owners of the La Vigne et l'Abeille winery in Theix Noyalo on the Gulf of Morbihan, for example, are harvesting grapes from Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Savagnin and Pinot Noir for the first time, which they planted in April 2021. In Loïc and Marina Fourure's wine cellar, which is not yet fully developed, wine presses, stainless steel tanks and pumps are used for the first time. The harvest is a milestone on the path of the Breton winemaking couple: "First there was the great emotion when we planted the vines on my father's and grandfather's land in 2021," Marina recalls, "now we have grapes." The young winemaker Loïc Fourure was trained in Anjou.
Just a few kilometres away, Domaine Rhuys-Dantelezh in Sarzeau is also starting operations. Marie Devigne and Guillaume Hagnier come from Champagne and are already harvesting for the second time, but are processing the grapes for the first time in the winery built by the municipality, which is still being expanded. Around the mill and the circular building are five hectares of vineyards, which are to grow to nine hectares.
In the north of Brittany, on the border with Normandy, Edouard Cazals from the new Domaine des Longues Vignes near Saint-Malo has also started harvesting. In 2019, he planted four hectares of vineyards with Chardonnay and is considered the "first Breton winemaker".
The new winegrowers' association "Association des vignerons bretons" currently includes about 30 young wineries in Brittany. According to their information, 55 hectares of vineyards are currently planted in Brittany, and another 250 hectares have already been applied for.
