The major French bank Crédit Agricole (CA) wants to sell the Bordeaux vineyards Château Blaignan in the Médoc and Château La Tour de Mons in Margaux. The bank has announced this.
Its associated company CA Group has owned Château Blaignan with 97 hectares of vineyards since 2004 and has invested a lot of money in the estate, mainly in wine production and a new barrel storage room. La Tour de Mons with 58 ha of vineyards was acquired by the bank in 1995 and has also invested in vineyards and wine production.
The bank announced that it intends to focus on its three other wineries. It owns Château Grand Puy Ducasse in Pauillac, Château Meyney in Saint Estèphe and Château de Santenay in Burgundy.
The proceeds from the sale are to be made available directly to Crédit Agricole customers for corporate financing. The bank has also announced a "massive investment programme" for Grand Puy Ducasse. It includes the construction and renovation of cellars and buildings, improvements in the management of nature and the development of wine tourism.
