Champagne Telmont

The champagne house Telmont, in which Hollywood star Leonardo di Caprio has a stake, is planning to use 193,000 bottles of different shades of green. The glass for this will be produced during the transition between different shades of colour. This is Telmont's way of emphasising its commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. The company has set itself the goal of becoming climate-positive by 2030 and carbon-positive by 2050.

Ten years ago, Telmont reduced the weight of its champagne bottles from the usual 900 grams to 835 grams. Last year, Telmont teamed up with glass manufacturer Verallia to test the lightest champagne bottles ever. They now weigh just 800 grams. Following the test phase with 3,000 bottles, a first batch of 30,000 of the lightweight bottles is to be used this year.

Telmont is replacing all transparent bottles produced without recycled glass with green bottles containing up to 87 per cent recycled glass. In addition, gift boxes and customised bottles will no longer be offered, as they increase the CO2 footprint by adding weight. Ludovic du Plessis, President of Maison Telmont, said: "For us, sustainability is not a limit or a constraint, but a ground for creativity and innovation. Every shade of green is a symbol of our commitment to the environment. We are not just changing the colour of our bottles, we are trying to transform the wine industry shade by shade."
