Hollywood actor Brad Pitt has reopened the recording studio located on the Miraval estate in Provence. Pink Floyd recorded parts of their album "The Wall" in the studio built by composer Jaques Loussier in 1977. Bands such as AC/DC, The Cure and The Cranberries as well as Sting also worked in the studios, which had been unused for almost two decades since then. The first artist to use the studio after it reopened was multiple Grammy Award winner Sade.

Brad Pitt and music producer Damien Quintard kept some of the original equipment but added current technologies, such as a central console with hybrid analogue/digital functions, which they call "The Spaceship". Quintard points out that the design, with its natural materials, also preserves the studio's "sonic heritage". "It's really a space where you can produce anything from pop and rock to hip-hop and classical records," he said.

The opening of Miraval Studios comes amid a bitter legal battle between Brad Pitt and his ex-wife Angelina Jolie over the property they bought together.
