The executive board of the producer association Badischer Winzerkeller in Breisach has published the figures for the 2021 business year. According to these, the company's turnover has decreased by 11.6 percent to 41.1 million euros compared to the 2020 financial year. Although the cooperative has noticeably reduced costs, the earnings situation is not satisfactory, according to the company's management. Above all, the winegrowers would suffer from the poor operating result. The planned grape payment in 2022 would not meet the expectations and the economically required level. Already in 2021, the cooperative had to struggle with the increased prices for cardboard boxes and longer delivery times. For the current year, it expects further price increases of up to 30 per cent for new glass and 20 per cent for closures and cardboard packaging.

According to the company's board of directors, sales in the first quarter of 2022 continued to decline due to corona. Badischer Winzerkeller is already working according to a three-year plan adopted in 2021, which is intended to further reduce costs, maintain access to the market and push the digitalisation of business processes to sustainably increase efficiency. In doing so, the company is also considering offering products outside of Baden's origin. The goal of the three-year plan, he said, is to operationally generate an increasing grape income from 2024 onwards.

4000 winegrowing families and 50 cooperatives belong to Baden's largest producer association. Together they cultivate about 1,600 hectares of vineyards in nine growing regions.
