The Sommelier-Union wants to help winegrowers who cannot cultivate their vineyards due to a lack of seasonal workers. To this end, sommeliers, restaurateurs, restaurant employees or merchants are to work in the rows of vines, which are currently out of work anyway due to the closure of restaurants and shops. "So if we can only get one positive thing out of this crazy situation, as threatening as it is for many of us, it is the time gained. Time that everyone should use for themselves. And if you can help a winegrower with your manpower and learn something for yourself, then we have killed two birds with one stone", explains President Peer F. Holm the idea.
"The vineyards must continue to be cultivated", VDP President Steffen Christmann supports the idea. "For us it would be a huge stroke of luck if we could tackle the work for the next vintage in our vineyards together with our highly esteemed colleagues from the catering trade. Side by side in the vineyard - with the currently appropriate distance, of course!"
The Sommelier-Union's action is controlled by Peer F. Holm. Every interested sommelier, gastro-employee, cook, restaurateur or trader can contact him directly by mail.
