At the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) 2018 medal stickers have been ordered by the winning wineries about twenty percent more than in 2017. This is reported by the organisers. The medals will be awarded: Grand Gold, Gold and Silver. The nations with the most orders are France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Mexico, South Africa and Belgium. According to a survey of wine buyers commissioned by the CMB, a medal symbol stuck on the bottle increases sales by between 18 and 40 percent, depending on the country.
At last year's competition in Beijing, almost 10,000 wines from a total of 320 grape varieties from 50 nations were judged by more than 300 jurors. The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is allowed to award a medal to a maximum of 30 percent of the wines submitted, based on the guidelines of the Organisation of Vine and Wine (OI) and the International Union of Oenologists (UIOE). According to the CMB, on average between 27 and 29 percent of the competition wines would receive a prize.
