Moselle winemaker Markus Molitor has presented the plans for a new, extraordinarily designed winery with a view of the Moselle. As the daily newspaper "Trierischer Volksfreund" reports, Molitor wants to have new buildings with 12,000 square metres of space for wine production, storage, administration as well as a vinotheque built on a plateau above his farm on the Klosterberg. They are to be comprehensively integrated into the landscape. "We have a wonderful view of the Moselle valley from there," Molitor explained. That is why the single-storey vinotheque with a wide window front is to be built directly on the edge of the slope.

The access road, built as an avenue, is to lead through parkland. From the vinotheque, employees and visitors will have a view of famous steep slopes of the wine-growing region such as the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, the Wehlener Sonnenuhr and the Ürziger Würzgarten. In the new building, he says, rooms are planned for events with up to 200 guests, hotel rooms for customers, an area for open-air events with up to 1,000 people, as well as flats for the Molitor family, relatives and the farm manager.

"The design clarifies the unique selling proposition of the Molitor winery and corresponds to the exposed orientation of old wineries. The decisive factor for the design was for us to transfer the unique view of the Moselle and the vineyards into the character of all the rooms," explained the architect, Professor Andrea Wandel from the architectural office Wandel Lorch in Saarbrücken.
