In Germany, 11.6 million bottles of champagne were purchased by retailers in the previous year. This is around 4.8 per cent less than in 2022, when there were 12.3 million bottles. This corresponds exactly to the pre-pandemic level. However, sales rose by 9.2 per cent to 268 million euros compared to 2022. Germany is therefore once again the fourth-largest champagne export market after the USA, the UK and Japan. The Comité Champagne announced these figures

In Austria, demand remained almost stable at 1.85 million bottles, down by just one per cent compared to 2022. However, sales increased by 13 per cent to over 50 million euros, reflecting a trend towards higher-quality champagnes. It is striking that almost 23 per cent more champagne was imported into Austria compared to 2019. Austria thus rose from 18th to 16th place among the most important champagne markets, overtaking countries such as Mexico and China.

Global figures also stabilised at the pre-corona level. Demand fell by 8.2 per cent in 2023, but sales remained stable at six billion euros. After 325.5 million bottles in 2022, 299 million bottles were delivered in the previous year, 127 million of which were in France and 172 million abroad. The export share has risen from 45 per cent to 57 per cent over the past ten years.
