At a meeting with partners and sponsors at Sekthaus Geldermann in Breisach in Baden on 11 February, the German national football team of winemakers ("Weinelf") will open the 2023 season. President Robert Lönarz is expecting responsible persons from business, politics and the media to attend. Lönarz, who since 2018 has also been chairman of the international association "Union of European National Football Teams of Winemakers" (UENFW), to which eight nations belong, wants to "send a visible signal and at the same time show our gratitude that we can perform internationally as a strong German team. This is currently the reason why Spain and France are unable to form a team!.
The Weinelf's first game will be a charity match on 11 March at the Ahr. 2023 will serve as preparation for the European Winegrowers' Championship, the VINEURO, planned for 2024 in Portugal or Italy.
