The Portuguese wine advertising agency ViniPortugal has decided on a marketing offensive for 2018. According to a press release, the association intends to invest 13 million euros in international campaigns. In 2017, it was only seven million euros. The most important import countries for Portuguese producers include the USA, France, Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada and Angola. In the USA alone, ViniPortugal plans to spend a quarter of its budget on advertising.

According to Jorge Monteiro, the president of ViniPortugal, Portuguese wine exports are expected to exceed the 800 million euro mark this year. The turnover in Portugal, however, is only around 300 million euros. The most important region for wine exports is therefore the Alentejo: between January and September 2017, its wines achieved a turnover of 133 million euros. The strongest growth in percentage terms was achieved by Madeira, with 39.3% compared to 2016, and sparkling wine with an increase of 30.7%.
