The European Parliament will set a transitional period for the obligation to label nutritional values and ingredients on wine labels after negotiations with the European winegrowers' associations. Although 8 December 2023 remains the deadline for introduction, the previous regulation ("wines produced and labelled before 8. 12. 2023") will be replaced by the following wording:

"Wine complying with the labelling requirements (...) in force before 8 December 2023 and aromatised wine products complying with the labelling requirements (...) in force before 8 December 2023 and produced before that date may continue to be placed on the market until those stocks are exhausted."

This means that most of the production of the 2023 vintage will not yet be subject to the labelling requirement.

The nutrition declaration includes information on calorific value, fat, saturated fatty acids, carbohydrates, sugar, protein and salt. The calorific value in kilojoules (kJ) and kilocalories (kcal) must be indicated on the label. In addition to the nutritional values, all ingredients that were necessary to produce the wine and are not completely consumed or removed (processing aids) must also be listed.
