A new wine from the heavy metal band Iron Maiden was presented at ProWein. The red Douro DOC is distributed by the British importer and distributor Ehrmanns Wine and comes from the Van Zeller Wine Collection. It is a cuvée of mainly Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz, aged for between six and nine months in used port barrels. The wine is reported to be fresh in character with soft tannins, easy to drink and deliberately commercial in style. The name 'Darkest Red' is a reference to the song 'Darkest Hour' from 2021.

The idea for the wine was born at the Wine Future conference, which took place in Coimbra last year. Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson, who has already developed the Trooper beer brand, was among the speakers there. The band was involved in putting together the cuvée. The bottles, which have a retail price of around 14 euros, are wrapped in paper printed with 'Eddie', the band's skeletal mascot. Iron Maiden are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2025 and their music also appeals to a younger audience. Ehrmanns Wine is therefore confident that the 'Darkest Red' will also reach a new target group.
