In Champagne the grape harvest has already begun today (21.8.18). The very early start of the harvest is due to the extreme weather conditions of the past months: according to the Comité Champagne, about 345 mm of rain fell between November 2017 and January 2018 - a new record since 1965. 750 hours were measured between April and June, the average value is 630 hours. Temperatures during this period were also well above average. The Comité Champagne has set the harvest quantity at the high value of 10,800 kg per hectare in order to be able to satisfy the increasing demand and to enable the farms to replenish their cellar reserves. In 2017, it was 10,300 kg per hectare, in 2016 only 9,700 kg.
