Franciacorta producers sold over 20 million bottles for the first time in 2021. According to the press release of the consortium, sales increased by 28.3 percent compared to the previous year. The appellation's export share is 10.3 percent. Switzerland confirms its leading position with a share of 22.2 percent of total exports (+22.1 % compared to 2020). It is followed by the United States with 12.4 per cent (+71.7 % compared to 2020), Japan (11.9 %), Germany (8.3 %) and Belgium (5.4 %).

"2020 was a difficult year for our appellation. As we rely heavily on the catering industry, the closures were a major challenge for our businesses. Therefore, it is all the more pleasing that we were able to increase significantly in 2021, especially from spring onwards," commented the president of the Franciacorta consortium, Silvano Brescianini, on the record year.
