The DOC Prosecco Consortium decided a few days ago to introduce a rosé variant. This was reported by the "Weinwirtschaft". According to this, rosé should only be sold as Spumante and not as Frizzante. The proportion of Pinot Nero must be at least ten percent, and a maximum of 15 percent. The period of the second fermentation in the pressure tank has been set at at least two months. According to the regulation, Prosecco Rosé may appear from 1 January of the following year of a harvest.

However, the representatives of the large wineries had voted against a reduction of the maximum yield from 18 tons per hectare to 15 tons.

Once adopted, the new category must first be approved by several Italian authorities. It was therefore questionable whether it could be released for the 2019 harvest.
