The executive board of the Saxony Winegrowers' Association plans to resign on 2 May after a heated dispute within the association. The association's chairman Lars Klitzsch, his deputy Michael Thomas and treasurer Frédéric Fourré want to clear the way for new elections. The three had only been in office since March 2017.

The association had been in fierce dispute over the scandal of unauthorised pesticides in Saxon wines two years ago and the exclusion of a candidate from the election for wine queen. As a result, many winegrowers cancelled their membership. In addition, the board was accused of not doing enough for the interests of the smaller wineries and of mainly representing the interests of the big producers.
