According to a survey by the market research company CGA by Nielsen, 52 percent of French people plan to significantly or slightly reduce their alcohol consumption when going out in the next twelve months. 16 percent of the 5,000 respondents have already started doing so. The reason they give is health concerns. 31 percent do not intend to change their consumption behaviour. Alcohol-free alternatives are becoming more popular as a result: 41 percent now drink alcohol-free cocktails in restaurants, 34 percent alcohol-free beer. Alcohol-free wines are ordered by only 15 percent.

The survey shows that "on average, consumers are willing to spend 6 euros for a non-alcoholic or low-alcoholic cocktail when they go out. This is 4 euros less than for an alcoholic cocktail". Nevertheless, these consumers provide more turnover in the gastronomy sector, as they spend nine percent more per month there (86 euros compared to 79 euros). 53 percent of the guests who more often reach for non-alcoholic alternatives visit a pub at least once a week. Of the alcohol consumers, it is only 44 percent.
