With the 2019 harvest, a Prosecco Rosé could go into production for the first time. The Board of Directors of the Prosecco Consortium has advocated the further development of this idea and the elaboration of production conditions. A vote among the members on the subject is already scheduled for the near future. If the producers agree, production can start in 2019.

"The idea has been discussed for some time. If we are going to realize it, it must be done in a period of economic growth like now. Anything else would look like an emergency solution," said consortium president Stefano Zanette to the Italian magazine Corriere Vinicolo. He stressed that "a top product must be created, i.e. a rounding off of the premium segment". This must be characterised by the sensory characteristics of the Prosecco that have led to its success, he added, adding: "We must therefore start from Pinot Nero, which is already one of the authorised grape varieties."
