The regional association VDP.Sachsen/Saale-Unstrut grows by two wineries to a total of seven member wineries. The wineries Martin Schwarz (picture) and Böhme & Töchter have been accepted as new members of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP).

Martin Schwarz was cellar master at the VDP winery Schloss Proschwitz from 1996. From 2002 onwards, he built up his own winery in Meißen in Saxony in parallel with his partner Grit Geißler, with which he became self-employed in 2013. His particular passion is the Pinot Noir variety.

The Böhme & Töchter winery was founded in 1986 in Gleina in Saale-Unstrut. Today, daughter Marika runs it together with Sandro Sperk, both of whom studied in Geisenheim. Their focus is on the Burgundy grape varieties Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay as well as Riesling.

The chairman of the VDP regional association, Prof. Georg Prinz zur Lippe, welcomes the new members with the words: "With them, the VDP Saxony-Saale Unstrut and thus the entire VDP not only gains two excellent and innovative wineries, but in particular, with Martin Schwarz, Grit Geißler, Marika and Sandro Sperk, four wonderful, committed colleagues and strong characters."
