Many generations, one passion: what unites the Fidesser family is their love of nature and the treasures it produces. With the support of their two children, Gerda and Norbert Fidesser run the eponymous winery in the Weinviertel with a special focus on authenticity and naturalness.The vineyards of the Fidesser family winery are located in the gentle, fertile hills of Central Europe's oldest rural cultural landscape - the Lower Austrian Weinviertel. Their vineyards benefit from the qualities of a very special microclimate within the region: in the north-western fringe area - in the villages of Platt and Retz - where the vines of the 15-hectare winery are located, the grapes ripen under special climatic conditions and on exceptional rootstocks. Gerda and Norbert Fidesser take advantage of these conditions to produce in harmony with nature organic certified wines of special quality with a strong character. In the meantime, they are supported by their two children Sophie and Rudi, who are currently intensively expanding their wine competence through specialised training. In this way, old knowledge is passed on, while at the same time new things are tried and implemented.
Cohesion, mutual trust and reliability: these are the strong pillars of the joint family success. The philosophy of the Fidessers is mindfulness. The careful handling of their vineyards to preserve the soil and strengthen the vines, and the cautious treatment of the precious harvest. They consciously take a step back and let the specific microclimate, the different soil types, flora and fauna play the main role in their wine creations. As a consequence of their respectful and environmentally conscious attitude to life, they manage their vineyard biodynamically according to the principles of Rudolf Steiner, strengthen the defensive power and vitality of the soil and vines with natural means and do without synthetic and systemic pesticides. The wines, which are produced after careful hand-picking and gentle processing of the best possible ripened grapes, thus acquire an authentic, unadulterated profile that carries the history of their origin.
The Platter and Retz soils are characterised by the deposits of the Tertiary Sea and loess drifts, with calcareous clay marl and quartz sand, but also gravelly patches of soil. These characteristics provide an ideal water reservoir for one of Austria's regions with the lowest precipitation and keep the vines from drying out. And although the estate's location with its special features stands out from those of the wine-growing region, Gerda and Norbert Fidesser also cultivate to a large extent the regionally typical Grüner Veltliner - the flagship of the Weinviertel. Other grapes that ripen in their vineyards include Zweigelt, Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller and Weißer Traminer. The wines reflect the terroir with a warm, fine spiciness, multi-layered aromas and lively freshness. In keeping with the guiding principle of "concentrating on the essentials", these characteristics are only given gentle support during vinification in order to emphasise the individuality of the grape varieties. "It is much more significant to make wine that is naturally beautiful than to round off corners in a bite-size way," is the conviction of the Fidesser family. And so their wines inspire with a natural beauty all their own. Away from any uniformity.
