The story of Domaine La Poussie is also significantly that of the de Ladoucette family. Both stories are set on the Loire. There, where the river winds its way through one of the most beautiful stretches of land in France, lies the impressive Château de Nozet, which has been owned by the de Ladoucette family since the late 18th century. Just like the largest vineyard with the most important and most famous vineyards in the Pouilly-Fumé region, which Baron Patrick de Ladoucette took over almost 200 years later and, with his knack for new ideas and creating special wines, made into a flagship for outstanding growths. And this worldwide, as the name de Ladoucette has long been synonymous with the finest white wines. The winemaking dynasty owes this reputation to a rare cuvée: Baron de L, which Patrick de Ladoucette brought to life and which has been produced exclusively in exceptional vintages ever since. A wine that is not only praised as one of the greatest single-varietal Sauvignon Blancs in the world, but also perfectly captures the philosophy of the house, reflecting the terroir and the tireless work of the people in the vineyard as well as in the cellar.
To this grandeur, Baron de Ladoucette added another jewel not far from the noble mother house in the mid-1990s: about 20 minutes upriver, he acquired the Clos de la Poussie, a special piece of vineyard land on which the finest and at the same time full-bodied, wonderfully fragrant Sancerres are vinified. The secret of Domaine Sancerre La Poussie is this south-facing vineyard, shaped by nature like an ancient amphitheatre. Among all the crus that have given the Loire vineyards their centuries-old fame, La Poussie is still considered a promise of elegance and authenticity. The history of the winery can be traced back to 1040. A little closer to our time, the French writer Honoré de Balzac wrote euphorically about the Loire vineyards: "The country possesses several vintages of generous wines, quite similar to the products of Burgundy, which find a ready sale in the cabarets of Paris." It has long been not only the fine French society that knows about the quality of the wines: connoisseurs all over the world are familiar with them.
It is a triad of white, rosé and red that is produced at La Poussie. The Sauvignon Blanc in particular loves the chalky subsoil on which it can ripen in optimal orientation and under the best conditions. From the Pinot Noir plots, a gentle and enticing Sancerre Rosé is vinified. But the deeply rooted vines also carry the complex and intense aroma of their grapes into the red Pinot Noir of the Sancerre appellation. Thus, each wine colour stands on its own, and yet together they tell the story that carries so much tradition - and adds a very special chapter to it today.
