© Good Corpinnat is tart and juicy, at its best dense, grippy, complex and deep - and usually bone dry. The growing region and variety composition ensure sparkling wines with noticeably lower acidity, and the carbonic acid pressure is also often lower than one is used to from other sparkling wines. The best grape material, yeast and fine phenolic must ensure firmness and grip here. The use of dosage would be rather out of place with many of these wines, even if there are excellent exceptions.
Corpinnat always comes to the market ready to drink and should usually be drunk within one or two years, as it rarely benefits from further bottle ageing. However, this does not mean that you should keep your hands off older vintages, quite the opposite! Especially the most interesting wines are often only disgorged and released after many years lees ageing.
In the winegrowers' association CORPINNAT, founded in 2017, 11 former Cava producers have joined forces to produce sparkling wine in the Penedès region south of Barcelona. Their goal is to restore the quality image of cava, which has been somewhat lost in recent decades for various reasons. In the next few days we will publish an article with background information on the history and current status of Catalan sparkling wine, which will then also be linked here.
The quality standards of the Corpinnat winemakers are high. We have currently tasted 20 wines, none of which did not score at least very well. We would even recommend 19 without reservation, and more than half are excellent; a thoroughly impressive result.
