What does semi-dry mean?
In German-speaking countries, the term"semi-dry" is used to describe a still wine that has more than 9 and less than 18 grams of residual sugar per litre. The upper limit of 18 grams per litre applies on condition that the residual sugar content is no more than 10 grams per litre higher than the total acid content. If the residual sugar content is more than 10 grams per litre above the total acidity, the upper limit is 12 grams of residual sugar per litre so that the wine may be described as "semi-dry".
The residual sugar content of sparkling wine labelled "semi-dry" may be between 32 and 50 grams per litre.
