Northern Piedmont is a cornucopia of exciting, often wholly original wines that often get far less attention in the wine world than they deserve. Nebbiolo also plays the leading role here in the reds (and the often very pleasing rosés), but by no means the only one. Vespolina in particular, with its tart juiciness, provides variety, sometimes as a blending partner and time and again as a single varietal in wines that are often worth much more than they cost.
