Northern Piedmont is a cornucopia of exciting, often completely unique wines that often get far less attention in the wine world than they deserve. Nebbiolo also plays the leading role here in the reds (and the often very pleasing rosés), but by no means the only one. Vespolina in particular, with its tart juiciness, provides variety, sometimes as a blending partner and again and again as a single varietal in wines that are often worth much more than they cost.
We have already presented the individual subzones of northern Piedmont here. The best wines currently tasted for this BEST OF can be found here and, as always, also as handy PDF. All the wines tasted with detailed descriptions as well as their producers are linked behind the headings.
