There I sat brooding over the book entrusted to me and had an almost insoluble problem
In order to be able to honestly appreciate the rhymes of the author gathered in it according to him, I absolutely needed a clearly mood-lifting measure of the material, which with its environment and itself offers the occasion for what is written - of wine!

But - unfortunately it is like this - the will to read and also the concentrated reading ability decreases significantly with me exactly in proportion to the degree to which I get tipsy. So what to do?

The solution was: I recited a series of randomly selected pieces from the book almost soberly onto a sound carrier, in order to listen to these recitations again after using the remaining contents of the bottle as intended and with a freshly opened second one.

And there it opened up to me what the author of the texts must have wanted, and what I was denied when reading sober: the pleasure in wordplay, the ironic handling of the "humanistic Büldung", the friendly poking fun not only at the "Rhine and wine culture", but also at the "international", and, and, and....

In his second work, the author presents 250 couplets about everything that is somehow related to wine in theory and practice, in history and stories, in sobriety (little!) and drinking, to the inclined reader. And yet it is not a reading book in the true sense of the word, but rather a juicy collection of pieces that can only develop their pleasurable life of their own through the art of a speaker in front of a convivial, cheerful audience. Only through the spark of tension between the performer and his joyfully awaiting audience do these texts come to fruition.

It would be very desirable if a gifted reciter would take on a selection from both of the author's works in order to preserve them for posterity as an acoustic enrichment of an enjoyable wine evening - alone or with friends - as an audio book.

In this way - or, if he dares, through the (before) reader's own recitation - the book can be great fun.
