Cavallile-redini-tenuta-degli-deiWhen you register who owns this winery, the word fashion is on the tip of your tongue. It fits so well with this wine, which I wouldn't necessarily call fashionable, more charming or a charmer (flatterer). It is a wine that pleases. And why shouldn't (and shouldn't) a wine please? Tenuta degli is owned by the famous fashion designer from Tuscany, Roberto Cavalli. His son Tommaso started to build up the winery about ten years ago and - after horse breeding - to turn to viticulture (or to cultivate both in parallel). Based on the wines presented, with success. The flagship, the "Cavalli" an elegant heavyweight, dark almost like a Cahor wine, with heavy aromas of blackberry, licorice, cocoa. Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Alicante, thus, what is called a Super Tuscan or just Bordeaux blend. No Sangiovese in the typical Chianti area. Modern, you could say, at least not traditional, but something that sells well. Now Tommaso Cavalli has created a second wine, just this "Redini": Original statement: ""Year after year, we were impressed by the softness of our Merlot, we wanted to respect its independence and no longer add it to the first wine of the estate, the IGT Cavalli Tenuta degli Dei, a cuvee of different red wine varieties" So, this soft, fruity, flattering "Le Redini", (in German: der Zügel) was created, which - it has to be attested - is ahead in the price-performance ratio at about 20 euro. It's a character wine, the advertising suggests: "in addition to its flattering varietal notes, this new creation carries the unmistakable character of its native Tuscany." ten5 If I'm still looking for that character, perhaps that's on me. As a lover of Ticino merlot (with distinct character), I find little character in "Redini", certainly none of Tuscan. It is certainly a well-made, well-marketable, enjoyable wine that loves the moment, is not necessarily interchangeable either, but hardly speaks the language of the wine region. Behind it, there is a lot of internationality or - this is just in the layout - a pronounced fashion consciousness. Fashion can also be beautiful and enjoyable, above all when it is not oriented to "haute couture" but rather to "prêt-à-porter".
