Regardless of the different styles, at least two basic types Crozes-Hermitage can be distinguished: early-accessible, youthfully juicy, fresh wines that are most enjoyable young and often very affordable, and much more ambitious, powerful, firmer, deeper examples that emulate the famous Hermitage and in some cases are actually close to it in quality.
Both variants can give the greatest pleasure; it is worth looking out for the latter, especially as it is still comparatively inexpensive. First-class red Crozes-Hermitage is also capable of developing positively over 10, 15, sometimes even 20 years.
