Crozes-Hermitage stretches in a semicircle north, east and south around Tain l'Hermitage and the Hermitage hill. The area is quite large and heterogeneous, and the wine qualities are correspondingly high. Although some of the best wines certainly come from the rather flat region in the south, the best terroirs are undoubtedly in the north, where the granite soil of the Hermitage continues, and the south to south-western sites can have conditions that are at least similar to the legendary Hermitage hillside. Limestone islands to the southeast of this also produce remarkable white wines.

Regardless of the different styles, at least two basic types Crozes-Hermitage can be distinguished: early-accessible, youthfully juicy, fresh wines that are most enjoyable young and often very affordable, and much more ambitious, powerful, firmer, deeper examples that emulate the famous Hermitage and in some cases are actually close to it in quality.

Both variants can give the greatest pleasure; it is worth looking out for the latter, especially as it is still comparatively inexpensive. First-class red Crozes-Hermitage is also capable of developing positively over 10, 15, sometimes even 20 years.

We present all currently tasted wines here. Links to the detailed wine descriptions as well as to the producers can be found by clicking on the headings.
