Vacqueyras with its about 1200 hectares of vineyards is still a little overshadowed by its more famous northern neighbor Gigondas, which may also be due to the fact that no local winery has yet managed to make a big name for itself with its Vacqueyras. This also has advantages for wine lovers, as even the best wines remain very affordable.

The region does not have to worry about quality. The red wines are usually somewhat more robust than those from Gigondas, often pleasingly strong in character, ideally firm, tart, quite complex and quite long-lived; the simple versions, on the other hand, tend a little towards the rustic. Really weak wines are rare, but as almost everywhere in the wine world, alcohol levels of 15% and more are usually not the best idea in Vacqueyras either.
