The members of the Sommelier-Union Germany elected Yvonne Heistermann as the new president with 92 out of 96 votes at the general meeting in Blankenhain (Weimarer Land). She is the first woman to head the association. Her predecessor Peer Holm had resigned in November 2022 because of accusations of "misconduct" towards women.
Yvonne Heistermann is a self-employed sommelière from Karlsruhe. She is a lecturer at the German Wine and Sommelier School, at German and Swiss hotel management schools and a specialist for the wines of Switzerland, France, Spain and Germany. After her election, she said: "In our association, it is important to build even stronger bridges between the generations so that we can benefit from each other much more. Moreover, there are more and more points of contact between trade and the hotel industry, which we can use mutually." Christian Frens, Philipp Künemund and Shahzad Talukder were elected vice-presidents. Michael Wangler remains treasurer of the association. Niki Restel, Theresa Stenzel, Marc Almert and Thomas Sommer form the new advisory board of the Sommelier-Union.
