The South African Yvette van der Merwe is the new president of the International Organization for Grapevine and Wine (OIV). She succeeds the Italian Luigi Moio, who will return to the role of deputy after completing his three-year term. The election took place during the 22nd General Assembly of the OIV in Dijon, just a few days after the celebrations for the organization's hundredth anniversary.
Van der Merwe has been working in the South African wine industry for nearly three decades and is currently the CEO of South African Wine Industry Information and Systems. Within the OIV, she has already held important positions: Chair of the Commission for Economics and Law; Vice-Chair of the Consumer Law and Information Expert Group; and Chair of the Expert Group of the Commission for Economic Analysis, Markets, and Consumption.
