The Old Vine Conference has launched the world's first competition for photos of old vines. It is open to both professionals and amateurs. The submissions should showcase old vine stocks and document and interpret the relationships between vines, land, and the people who tend them. Old vines are defined as grapevines that are at least 35 years old.
Photos can be submitted in four categories: Landscape and Plants, People, Cultural Heritage, and Resilience and Adaptation. Participation is possible until May 5, 2026. All photographs that make it to the final selection will be displayed on June 8, 2026, in a pop-up exhibition at the Old Vine Conference Heritage Showcase in London. On this day, the public voting will also begin. The winners will be announced on July 15, 2026, Old Vine Day. The overall winner will receive a trip with the Old Vine Conference to photograph some of the most remarkable old vines in the world, as well as around 600 euros in travel expenses. The winners of each category will receive a lifetime membership with the Old Vine Conference and a case of wines from old vines.
The aim of the competition is to raise awareness of the importance of old vines. The photographs should capture the beauty and history of the oldest vineyards in the world and build an archive that honors the vines and the people who protect them,
