On 1 January 2018, the Michel Winery from Achkarren in Baden was accepted into the VDP. The owner Josef Michel founded the Kaiserstühler Weingut together with his parents in 1983 and has been responsible for vinification since the first vintage. He had already focused on the Burgundy varieties at an early age. Today 98 percent of his 13 hectares of vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay.

Most of his vines are on the Achkarrer Schlossberg. This renowned site, shaped by volcanic rock, rises steeply in several waves at the edge of the wine village and is predestined for the production of Burgundy. ""With great passion", says the VDP, the winery works out the various facets of this site with the aim of producing purist wines with depth. Joachim Heger, the chairman of the VDP regional association of Baden, is delighted about the new addition: "With his Burgundies, Josef Michel interprets the character of the vineyards and the Mediterranean climate of the Kaiserstuhl in an exemplary manner

Currently 196 wineries are members of the VDP. Since 1991, 129 members have been newly admitted and 94 members have left.
