The South-Titol winery Franz Haas and two faculties of the University of Bolzano are working on a research project on a digital fingerprint for wines. It is intended to analyse and document the distinctive parameters of a vineyard wine, for example, and later make them available in an app. In the "Wine ID" project, the Faculty of Science and Technology in Bozen/Bolzano and its Oenolab, as well as the Faculty of Computer Science, are working together in the interdisciplinary project Haas to develop a digital fingerprint of various Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc wines in his range. For this purpose, they are sampling and analyzing the entire production chain from the grape to the wine.

The scientists are pursuing the goal of securing the quality of South Tyrolean wines and also defining indicators for their authenticity. The goal is to provide the winery with technological decision-making aids for wine production. The software experts at the University of Bolzano are processing this raw data in order to be able to navhollow connections between the molecular fingerprint and the sensory profile of the wine. By the end of the project, the scientists hope to be able to analyse a wine to trace its history of origin and to determine its quality and shelf life.
