Winegrower Florian Lauer from Saar has withdrawn from the active business of the VDP winery Peter Lauer ****. Since April, he has been a climate manager at the municipal association Saarburg-Kell. However, he remains one of three managing directors of the family winery in Ayl. Its operation continues in a new legal form, reports the daily newspaper Trierischer Volksfreund.

The winery has been a limited partnership since January 1, 2026. In addition to Florian Lauer, the two previous employees Max Kirsch and Max Zellerhoff are involved. The 40-year-old Max Kirsch is responsible for external operations, finance, and personnel. The cellar master is the 27-year-old Max Zellerhoff, who also handles the winery's communication. Florian Lauer now works only as an advisor behind the scenes. Decisions are made equally by the three managing partners, according to the newspaper report.

According to Lauer, health reasons prompted him to change jobs. However, he emphasizes to the "Volksfreund" that he has "no malignant disease." As a climate manager, the 46-year-old agricultural scientist and agricultural economist will deal with the consequences of climate change. The goal is to reduce personal, material, and property damage caused by extreme weather events such as heavy rain, heat, and drought.

Florian Lauer took over the winery in 2006 from his father. The business has been in the family for five generations and exclusively cultivates Riesling on 13 hectares along the Saar. Since 2013, the winery has been a member of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP).
