Wine consumption in India has increased by 29 percent in 2022. This is shown by figures from Technavio, a research and consulting company that monitors the Indian wine industry. According to estimates, the turnover of the Indian wine industry will grow by 274 million US dollars by 2026. Although the per capita consumption of the population is currently only one bottle per year, it is continuously increasing. Indian wines make up the majority of wines, with few imports. In the past, it was mainly international tourists who boosted the consumption of Indian wines. Now, however, the Indian population is becoming more and more interested in the subject. The number of registrations for wine courses among Indian consumers has increased by 200 per cent. Rosé wines - both still and sparkling - are particularly popular.

During the Corona pandemic, leading Indian wine companies have launched a variety of new wines. Most wines are priced between 12 and 15 euros, but the market for higher-priced wines is also growing, he said. According to the World Economic Forum, India will be the third largest country with the most high-income households after China and the US by 2030. About 140 million households will move into the middle class and another 20 million into the high-income category. This will lead to a further increase in wine consumption.
