In November, the private wine collection of former Château d’Yquem owner Alexandre de Lur-Saluces will be auctioned in Paris. The Marquis, who passed away in 2023, managed the Sauternes estate from 1978 to 2004. His private collection includes more than 2,500 bottles from the most renowned wine regions of France and the world.
At the center of the collection is an almost complete cross-section of vintages from Château d’Yquem from 1928 to 2019. Particularly rare vintages such as 1935, 1937, and 1946, as well as the legendary bottles from 1989, 2001, and 2015, are considered highlights. Three half bottles of the Yquem vintage 1937 are estimated to be particularly sought after.
However, the collection goes far beyond Sauternes: it includes renowned estates such as Petrus, Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Cheval Blanc, Margaux, Palmer, and Angélus. Burgundy wines also hold a prominent place, including Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, and Montrachet, which he mostly received as gifts from companions like Aubert de Villaine. The selection is complemented by international top wines from Spain (Vega Sicilia), Hungary (Tokaji), Germany, Italy, and California.
The auction is organized by Maison Daguerre in collaboration with wine expert Ambroise de Montigny. It will take place on Thursday, November 13, at 2 PM at Hôtel Drouot (Salle 9) in Paris. The complete auction catalog can be viewed on the websites daguerre.fr and drouot.com, and bids can be placed online. The auction gives collectors the chance to acquire wine legends from the expertise of Alexandre de Lur-Saluces.
