The Rheingau VDP winery Jakob Jung is a two-time winner of the "Red Dot Design Award". The new image convinced the jury of the internationally renowned design competition to such an extent that they awarded the new bottle design as well as the new website.
In the winery's new corporate design, playing cards are the central element. The labels reflect a deck of cards from a mystical world and depict the origin of the wines. The design becomes more sophisticated and artistic the higher the quality of the wine; the basis is the four-level VDP classification system. The website is also based on the card game metaphor in terms of text and graphics.
"A card game brings the most diverse people to one table. For me, it is a strong symbol of the joy of community," explains winegrower Alexander Jung. "Wine has a similar radiance. The love of wine brings people together. To make this togetherness something special is what drives me on. Our new design has a very high recognition value due to the unusual layout and the use of my previous corporate colour pink"
However, he did not expect such a resounding success of the new design: "I am speechless, and that really does not happen very often," says Jung. "We have taken a completely new direction with the design. These awards are a great acknowledgement for everyone who worked on it."
The new design concept was developed by the Berlin agency Ruska Martín Associates. Agency founder Roman Ruska reports that the "Rheingauer Bube" Alexander Jung mentioned his passion for playing cards at the first meeting. "The jack, his cards and the JJ initials of the winery - an image that hasn't left me loose. Especially when I heard the names of his vineyards: Hohenrain, Siegelsberg, Steinmorgen. In my mind I was immediately in a world of fantasy, mysticism and play", says Ruska.
