At the "Branchentreff der Weinwirtschaft" of the IHK Trier and the Bundesverband der Deutschen Weinkellereien (Federal Association of German Wineries), the German winegrowers' president Klaus Schneider called for the continuation of the controversial Großlagen in the reform of the wine designation law. In doing so, he said that the origin "must be a promise of quality in the future". The indication of a smaller origin must contain a greater promise of quality. For this, he said, it is necessary to "develop a legally systematic structure of a pyramid of offers of wines with and without protected origin. The Großlage is to be integrated into the system."

In doing so, he announced "to develop a clearly recognisable demarcation between the single vineyard and the Großlage ". In the process, the linking of place names and large site names is to be maintained in its present form. He emphasised: "For the designation-legal identification of the levels Großlage and area on the label, a name addition will be found in prefix."
