A few days ago, the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Economics, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture again approved the acidification of grapes, must and partially fermented grape must. However, the simultaneous deacidification and enrichment of must with sugar remains prohibited. The de-acidification of grapes and must for the production of ice wine is also prohibited.

The development of the grapes in this vintage is characterised by hot spells at the beginning and end of July and at the end of August. Rain fell in the wine-growing regions in extremely varying amounts during this time. Especially the last, extreme heat wave caused the must weight of the grapes to increase massively within a few days. This caused a drastic reduction in malic acid and thus in total acidity.
