The ongoing forest fires in California have so far destroyed almost 69,000 hectares of vineyards. At present, 23 people have died in the fires. Seven wineries have been completely burned down. They include Signorello Estate and White Rock Vineyards in Napa and Frey Vineyards in Mendecino. Another eleven wineries were severely or very severely damaged. Among them is the famous Stag's Leap vineyard, also in Napa.

Harvesting and production in the affected regions is currently only possible under the most difficult conditions because many employees have lost their homes in the fires, roads are blocked or impassable, there is no electricity and many wineries are largely cut off from the outside world.
