The frost damage in Franconia is much more severe than previously assumed by the viticulture experts. This is reported by "Der Deutsche Weinbau". According to the report, the "Vereinigte Hagelversicherung" (United Hail Insurance Company) had announced that the experts had expected yield losses of around 30 percent. According to the report, more than two-thirds of the 6,250 hectares of vineyards in the region were affected by the late frost in May. The Mainschleife and the Bad Kissingen area were particularly hard hit. During the interim inspections led by District Director Dr. Philipp Schönbach, it has now been established that the vines were unable to recover from the frost, contrary to expectations. As a result, the loss of the harvest was probably higher than initially assumed due to the timing and the subsequent weather conditions. Final figures are expected shortly before the harvest begins.
