Between 2002 and 2018, sales of rosé rose by 40 percent worldwide. The main customers are wine connoisseurs in France, the USA and Germany. They are responsible for 60 percent of worldwide sales. These figures were announced by the Observatoire Mondial du Rosé at a trend workshop in collaboration with the Institute of Masters of Wine.

Quality aspects are becoming increasingly important. More and more often, rosés are no longer drunk next to the swimming pool, but with dinner. This is leading to a trend towards premium rosés, in which origin and terroir play an important role. Sales and the value per bottle would also increase strongly. In 2014, worldwide sales of rosé still amounted to 1.4 billion euros, in 2018 it had already reached 2.2 billion euros.
