The glass packaging manufacturer Verallia is launching the Burgundy Air 300G, a particularly lightweight Burgundy bottle. The bottle weighs only 300 grams instead of the usual 450 grams in Europe, thus reducing raw material consumption and CO₂ emissions by one third. Despite the lower weight, it retains the traditional Burgundy shape.
According to Verallia, the production of one million bottles saves around 66 tons of CO₂, 279 MWh of energy, and 74 m³ of water. Depending on the color, the bottle can contain up to 86 percent recycled glass. The company is building on the introduction of the "Bordelaise Air 300G" bottle, which has been available since 2023.
The Burgundy Air 300G will be offered with a screw cap or flat mouth and in three colors, and will be presented to the wine industry at the Sitevi trade fair in Montpellier at the end of November.
Verallia is one of the largest manufacturers of glass packaging in the world, producing more than 16 billion bottles and jars in 2024.
