The two winemakers Bernard Pawis and Andreas Spreitzer - both members of the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP) - have created a "unified wine" together with the painter and graphic artist Michael Apitz. The wine is a single-varietal Riesling and brings East and West together: Pawis Winery is based in Zscheiplitz in the Saale-Unstrut growing region, Spreitzer Winery in Oestrich-Winkel in the Rheingau. The grapes come from the Zscheiplitzer Himmelreich and the Geisenheimer Schlossgarten, both classified as VDP.Erste Lagen. 2,020 bottles were produced.

Michael Apitz is known, among other things, as the illustrator of the wine comic character "Karl, der Spätlesereiter" (Karl, the Late Harvest Rider) and, together with his family, had the idea of creating a painting to mark the 30th anniversary of German unity on 3 October 2020, which now also adorns the artist's label of the Riesling. The work is entitled "EINHEIT" (Unity) and plays with the German national colours of black, red and gold or yellow, which flow together in a structure reminiscent of rows of vines from the bottom left and right into the centre of the painting to an imgani horizon.

The work "EINHEIT Wein & Gemälde" was publicly presented on 25 August 2020 at the Hessian State Representation in Berlin. Until 29 September, the painting will be on display in the foyer of Wiesbaden City Hall, where it will enrich the "Neuland" exhibition by Michael Apitz. This shows vineyard paintings from the past years as well as the work "9. November", which was created in 2009 - 20 years after the fall of the Wall - also as a contribution to the theme of German Unity.
